Abisko National Park is situated in the most northern
part of Sweden, near the Norwegian and border, 100 km northwest of Kiruna.
The name Abisko comes from the Sami Ábeskovvu,
which means approximately "the forest at the large water" and refers
to the proximity to Torneträsk.
The most visited hiking trail is Kungsleden (Kings
trail);
a 440 km long trail that starts -- or ends -- i Abisko tourist station
and follows through the national park. The
trail continues to follow the Scandinavian
mountain range. |
