Veneto, in the northeastern Italy. The city stretches across 118 small
islands in the Venetian
Lagoon along the Adriatic
Sea .
The Venetian
Republic was a big maritime power during the middle
ages and renaissance, ruling and taxing not only the Veneto region
but also main part of the Adriatican east coast (today's Croatia).
